Robot helps sick kid go to school on MSNBC. In our class, ETEC-647 Emerging Technology we discussed the definition we would use for “Emerging Technology”. The use of the Vgo robot is an example of an emerging technology with many potential applications. It was stated in the video that the company, by chance contacted the school to see if there was an educational use for their product. The student featured is benifiting from the use of the Vgo robot both academically and socially. Indeed, his quality of life has been enhanced through the use of emerging technology. This product consist of several converged technologies. Robotics and mobile technology along with video conferencing, enable a student to eliminate the barriers that once limited his education. Very interesting video. When I read your description, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was kinda thinking about the robot Honda created in Japan but it is interesting that such a simple robot could potentially do so many things. I actually should have known better since the Roomba that vaccums your room is considered a robot too. I wish I could have a glimpse of what future technology would look like in the next 15-20 years. I’m sure we’re going to see some cool stuff.
